ARTIST STATEMENT

Whenever I’m asked to write an artist statement I feel enormous pressure to convey something deep and profound. I wish I had a fabulous quote or some deep-seated tale to tell. But honestly, I just love creating. I’ve been painting and drawing my entire life. I love working with color and light and shadows and textures. My subject matter, as well as my medium varies widely, depending on my mood. I like to experiment and see what happens.

I grew up in a small town in the Midwestern United States but I’ve always had an affinity for cross-cultural learning. At fourteen, I had my first opportunity to travel abroad and I absolutely loved it. Since that time, I've traveled extensively and have lived in several different cultures including Europe, Asia and Africa.

I’d say that my experience traveling and my sense of spirituality are the two most prominent influences in my life and in my work. I think that all art comes from within and speaks directly to the heart. As an artist, I see my job as listening intently and then finding a way to visually connect my inner and outer worlds.
